When wrenches become sensors: The changing face of service

Asset management track

Shrinking O&M budgets, a retiring workforce and an aging asset base are just some of the elements driving big changes in the service landscape. Wrenches and screwdrivers are being replaced by sensors and analytics—and that’s a good thing.

In this session, we’ll talk about leveraging technology to lower O&M costs while improving reliability. We’ll also discuss changing maintenance practices, and we’ll make the case for condition-based maintenance.

Graham Stallings

Director of Sales and Marketing, Transformer Services
 
Graham manages commercial operations in North America for ABB’s Transformer Remanufacturing and Engineering Services (TRES) team.  Working to ensure high-caliber customer service, Graham manages a portfolio supporting new product and aftermarket needs.  With extensive experience in the energy industry, Graham has managed a variety of roles serving utility and industrial customers alike.  

Graham has a B.S. in Management with a concentration in Management Information Systems and Marketing from North Carolina State University.

Randy Schrieber

Marketing & Sales Manager for ABB’s North American Power Services business.

Randy is responsible for guiding the growth and development of ABB’s life cycle service offerings for power equipment. This includes the development and support of risk assessments for aging infrastructure and the remediation options to cost effectively maintain system reliability and predictability.

His areas of expertise include:
  • T&D product application, production and maintenance
  • Reliability evaluation of equipment and power systems
  • Risk assessment and asset management optimization
  • Power equipment upgrades and life extension

Kevin Starr

R&D Manager, ABB Process Automation Services

Kevin Starr has worked for ABB for over 26 years. He currently works for ABB Process Automation Division and is responsible for the development and implementation of service solutions that result in the increased life cycle and utilization of Industrial Automation systems.  

He has taught process control techniques in a number of countries in Europe and Asia as well as numerous locations throughout the United States and Canada. His book on process control, Single Loop Control Methods, has sold over 3,000 copies worldwide and Kevin has been a keynote speaker at industry events throughout the world. He currently has 12 patents as a result of his efforts with process control.

Kevin holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Ohio State University, and a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Ohio University, both with an emphasis in process control.

Bob Wells

ServiceGrid (SM) Product Manager in North America

Wells focuses on developing service solutions to assist customers in maximizing reliability and extending asset life through comprehensive life cycle support services. He has over 18 years of industry experience with ABB in system/consulting engineering and product management and has spent the past four years in the Power Generation North America Business Unit. 

Wells holds a bachelor of chemical engineering degree from Cleveland State University and a master of business administration from Baldwin Wallace University.
