The ground-breaking 525 kV extruded HVDC cable system has a power rating of up to 2600 MW, and is ideal for delivering larger amounts of electrical power over longer distances than was previously possible. The cable system is designed for submarine as well as underground applications, and utilizes a new DC cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation material, a uniquely developed material technology; oil and porcelain-free terminations based on ABB bushing technology, as well as cable joints for efficient installations.
ABB’s 525 kV extruded HVDC cable system is a key element in the vision of a DC grid that utilizes renewable energy generation more efficiently. The cable system meets international standards and recommendations for extruded cable systems, including the extensive qualification-by-type and long-term pre-qualification tests. ABB has once again launched record-breaking innovation, thus taking power transmission systems to the next level.
