ABB robots and Flex Framer have been deployed in the Great Wall Motor’s new Tianjin plant to manufacture domestic brand SUVs.
ABB has provided Phase I of the Great Wall Motor’s new Tianjin plant with a complete automated welding solution. ABB robots, Flex Framer and robot roller hemming technology were deployed to manufacture the high-end HAVAL H6 SUV and other mid- and high-end vehicles to help Great Wall Motor improve production quality and efficiency.
The fastness of welding directly influences the anti-impact properties and overall performance of a car body. ABB designed and supplied a full range of automated solutions for the new plant’s main welding line. The line has 30 working stations, which adopts 27 ABB welding robots including IRB 6640 and IRB 7600 to process the over 4,000 welding points on the car body of the HAVAL H6 SUV. Thanks to ABB robots, the shock resistance capacity of the car body has increased by 30%.
In the automotive industry, ABB holds advanced robotic solutions including car body, powertrain, pressing, painting and welding. ABB robots are widely used in the production lines of the top automakers of China including Shanghai GM, Shanghai VW, Guangzhou Honda, Dongfeng Peugeot, Chang’an Ford, FAW Jiefang, Geely, and Great Wall Motor.
The cooperation between ABB’s Robotics Business Unit and the Great Wall Motor Company Limited began in 2006. Besides the Phase I of the new Tianjin plant, ABB also provided the plant with 12 robots for the gluing and welding application, which ensures precise positioning and the improvement in gluing quality and reduces the intensity of hand labor.
