Marmaray, Republic of Turkey

Marmaray connects the European and Asian continents under the Bosporus

The project involves upgrading 63 km of existing railway on both the Asian and European shores and connecting it with the 14 km cross-Bosporus link, creating a 77 km cross-city commuter corridor in Istanbul linking Gebze and Halkali.

A third track is to be laid alongside the existing double track route to accommodate inter-city and freight services, with complete renewal of the overhead electrification and signaling system.

EyM, a fully owned subsidiary of OHL Spain, bears the overall responsibility for the overhead electrification system including the power supply. ABB has been selected as subcontractor for the entire traction power supply package.

ABB’s scope of supply covers turnkey delivery of the 25 kV single-phase traction power supply system comprising the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of six 154 / 25 kV 50 Hz traction substations and their TEIAS grid connections, one 34.5 / 25 kV 50 Hz temporary traction substation and its TEDAS grid connection, five 25 kV 50 Hz sectioning posts and the substation automation system based on IEC 61850.
