As the UK makes progress towards its 2020 target to meet 15 percent of energy demand from renewable sources, the country’s transmission and distribution network operators are looking to make the most of their substations. The model of how we distribute power is changing, as a small number of power stations give way to many renewable sources spread over a wide geographical area. Demand patterns are also changing as smart metering takes off and consumers become prosumers.
