After coal: Grid stability amid plant shutdowns

Power generation track

Coal plant retirements are a fact of life in the utility industry of the 21st century, but what happens when they disappear faster than they can be replaced?

In this session we’ll put the focus squarely on grid stability and how a lack of planning—and even just bad timing—can create headaches for utilities. We’ll also talk solutions including some new options for preserving reliability in the post-coal era.

Rodney Durban

Rodney is taking the lead at ABB for their US Clean Air initiative. He is a 20+ year veteran of the power industry.

Before joining ABB, Rodney served in the US Navy with a focus on electronics, and then moved into the commercial sector working at Big Rivers Electric Corporation and Western Kentucky Energy Corporation.

Today, his day to day role is focused on key strategic marketing and sales opportunities related directly to ABB’s Clean Air initiative. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations have established major air quality compliance deadlines for the power industry starting in 2015.

Rodney and ABB are committed to working with the industry to provide the strategy and product advances to meet and exceed these regulations.
