We’ll go beyond the nuts and bolts of compliance to discuss how utilities can encourage a culture of safety. What technologies and specifications will reduce risk and protect utility employees? We’ll also spend some time on the Department of Energy’s new efficiency standards for dry-type transformers set to take effect in 2016.

Tommy R. Nunn

Tommy Nunn is the Commercial Operations Manager for ABB’s North American Market  Dry Type Transformer division.  He has a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and has 37 years experience in the medium voltage power equipment industry specializing in Small Power Transformers.  His experience in the industry includes ITE, Gould, Brown Boveri Corporation, PEMCO and presently ABB.  

His area of expertise includes production design, ANSI and IEC electrical test, quality assurance, supply chain management, product application and sales, product development and production, marketing and commercial operations.

Samy Faried

Samy Faried, PE is a Business Development Manager / Field Applications Engineering, Power Products.  He is a licensed professional engineer and a senior member of IEEE with over 25 years of experience in electrical power systems analysis, engineering, design, construction, project management, operation and maintenance, and training.

He has three degrees in electrical engineering / business administration with graduate degrees from Northeastern University, Boston, MA.

Samy has taught at six different universities including Boston University, Brown University, Northeastern University, and the University of Central Florida.  He has authored several electrical power system training programs for Boston Edison, St. Cloud and Lake Worth Electric Utilities, and ABB, Inc. 

Samy has hands on experience in power system, short circuit, protective device coordination and load flow studies.  His experience encompasses system expansion, operation and maintenance, reliability, return on investment analysis, and other financial impact studies.

Samy has in-depth experience in risk assessment and electric arc hazards as pertaining to NFPA 70E, NESC, and IEEE 1584 (Guide for Performing Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations).
