What was the most difficult challenge in your ABB career?

As the service coordinator at Marine & Cranes I have a challenging, stressful but fun job. The moment I walk into the office, I know in part what awaits me, but I never know what I will encounter or at what time I will be able to go home at the end of the day. Combining the job of group leader with a family at home is a big challenge. Luckily, I work in a good and friendly team and when necessary, my co-workers can take over. The flexibility of ABB when it comes to my working hours ensures that I am successfully able to combine family life and a challenging job.

How has working in a global business changed the way you work or think?

In the Marine & Cranes department, I have daily contact with international customers. This means you quickly learn that you can’t approach each person the same way and that not everyone has the same expectations. This is sometimes a challenge and very instructive. You always have to be aware of the mutual expectations and the cultural differences in order to be able to prepare and carry out a task as well as possible.

What motivates you the most in your work?

Every day I enjoy going to work. The dynamic side of my job is an aspect I like very much, and the fact that I almost never know what the day has in store for me keeps my work challenging. I am in contact with people from around the world. Together we make sure that we keep a ship sailing, a crane working and a platform operating. That gives me a sense of satisfaction each time! Sometimes you really have to give it your all in order to get everything running, but when it works and you get positive reactions, you know why you do it!
