#EmbraceDifference: Leading diversity in Europe

ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer was recently among more than 50 CEOs and board chairs of Europe’s largest industrial and technological companies to sign the first pan-European commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Spearheaded by the European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT), of which ABB is a member, the pledge is designed to promote inclusion and diversity in the workplace, including:

  • An inclusive culture: Create an open and inclusive work environment where all individuals’ contributions are valued, their voices are listened to and respected.
  • Inclusive leadership: Establish diversity and inclusion as a strategic business imperative at all levels of an organization visibly led by the “top leadership”, acting as role models.
  • Aspiration and goal setting: Set and maintain challenging but achievable goals and ambitions within the organization.
  • Clear responsibility: Ensure that all managers are responsible for reaching diversity goals and ambitions and that they have appropriate oversight of strategies and initiatives to achieve them.
  • Equal opportunities: Review people policies, processes and practices, including recruitment, retention, development, remuneration and career planning to foster diversity and avoid any bias.
  • Societal engagement and responsibility: Contribute to bridging the skills gap by supporting the development of STEM and digital subjects in education.

How can we all reach our full potential? #EmbraceDifference!

Global Alliance for YOUth

The Global Alliance for YOUth is a business-driven movement of like-minded organizations passionate about helping young people around the globe get the necessary skills to thrive in the world of work, today and tomorrow.

A global alliance will, of course, help young people on a larger scale and have a bigger impact than we can each imagine individually. To this end, ABB has joined forces with global leaders such as AXA, DHL, EY, Facebook, Google, Nestlé, Salesforce and Twitter to mobilize the business community.

Together, we are committed to providing a better future for younger generations.

Our focus areas:

  1. We provide young people with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to work in the 21st century. We drive change from within by creating a critical mass of best practices. We leverage our scale, resources and network to amplify our impact.

  2. We support, advocate for and develop educational programs that enable young people to successfully transition from education and training to employment, eg. apprenticeship programs and dual, vocational and technical education.

  3. We support young entrepreneurs and help young people develop an entrepreneurial mindset by raising awareness and advocating for more support.
