Working in service, you get to know various industries, manage a wide range of different technologies and solve complex customer inquiries. In order to successfully do that, you take part in product trainings and seminars; step by step, you develop an understanding of our technologies and learn about our advanced capabilities. Regardless of whether you work in on-site support, sales or project management – you are the first contact person for our customers. You assist them when technical problems occur and give advice in all service matters.

Career paths, development and qualifications


Technical service

As a service engineer or technician, you are in charge of commissioning and service for your respecitve area of expertise, eg control technologies or robotics. You work closely together with site managers and mechanics, and coordinate all acitvities with them. The timely and safe connection of equipment is also part of your job, as well as troubleshooting and realizing modifications. Furthermore, you are responsible for any trainings your customers might need and for issuing and revising commissioning protocols, runtime procedures and specifications.

Technical sales

Working in technical sales, you are responsible for the acquisition of national and international projects; this includes acquiring new customers and maintaining already established customer contacts. You identify sales potential for existing customers, review customer requests and specifications and offer advice; you also identify and communicate competitive advantages for ABB products. Furthermore, you represent ABB at trade fairs, analyze markets, monitor competitors, and support when complaints or warranty claims arise.

Project management

As a service project manager, you oversee national and international service projects over the entire project duration and are the customer's contact person at all times. You are part of an interdisciplinary project team and responsible for the professional and timely realization of contractual agreements as well as for the development of technical concepts. You organize, control and monitor all the steps until the project objectives are reached. Furthermore, you clarify the technical and commercial elements of the contract in coordination with the customer. The more projects you manage, the more you advance, and thus qualify for further leadership tasks or other challenges.
