ABB Corporate Research, in close collaboration with varied ABB business areas, is developing the foundations for the next generation of ABB products. In Switzerland, ABB Corporate Research, located in the proximity of Zurich, employs 200 scientists from over 40 countries with expertise in automation and power technologies for manufacturing, consumer and process industries as well as power utilities. The Insulation & Polymer Technologies unit at ABB's corporate research center in Switzerland focuses on the development of innovative insulation solutions to be implemented in the company's next generation of products. We are currently offering high-caliber students the chance to join our multidisciplinary team of researchers in the field of polymer technology. Internships are scheduled to commence in September or October 2018 and would cover a period of six months or, in exceptional cases, twelve months in total. Your responsibilities

- Contribute to current research projects focusing on innovative polymeric materials and production processes
- Extend your knowledge of polymers and electrical insulation applications
- Conduct independent research in the field of polymer technology
- Evaluate findings and present test results to the team
- Prepare intelligible documentation of results

Your background

- Degree program (official enrolment is essential) in Materials Science/Chemistry or similar discipline (completion of at least six semesters)
- Broad understanding of materials with focus on polymers or polymer composites
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated mindset and ability to work independently
- Highly conscientious individual with keen sense of responsibility
- Fluent command of English, both written and spoken
