R&D Mechanical Engineer – Emergency Lighting Units

The R&D Mechanical Engineer, Emergency Lighting Units, participates in the development and validation of the global platform for emergency products. Working within a multidisciplinary team and in association with worldwide regional teams, the engineer ensures the development of a range of innovative solutions, allowing an optimal usage of the sub components by the various regional centers, and therefore meeting their technical requirements. As a professional, the engineer accomplishes any design-related task with rigor and communicates effectively with colleagues for a collaborative environment.


- Design modular and innovative components as per the requirements defined by the architect of the self-contained emergency products platform.
- Participate in the development of material sub-components for the other emergency products global platforms.
- Participate in the creation of validation plans for sections under his/her responsibility.
- Work with suppliers to identify optimal components, both in terms of performance and budget constraints.
- Ensure an understanding of the customers’ needs as well as the various codes and standards which can impact the designs.
- Participate in project planning and follow-ups with other involved members.
- Participate actively in design review meetings.
- Write the technical documents required during all the development phases.
- Ensure that the designed products meet the customers’ needs, as well as the quality and safety standards.
- Provide technical support to engineers participating in projects, as well as to regional engineering teams.


- Bachelor degree in mechanical/electrical engineering and a minimum of 5 years work experience in design of similar products, or equivalent.
- Experience in mechanical enclosure design.
- Knowledge of water/dust resistance standards for enclosures.
- Knowledge in integration of electrical and electronic components.
- Experience with computer-aided software (CAD, printed circuits design).
- Knowledge in product development tools and processes.
- Knowledge of lighting products, like LED and previous technologies.

- Knowledge of intellectual property activities.
- Functional English required, spoken and written, as well as a second language, an asset.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Autonomy and leadership for managing priorities in line with targeted goals.
- Team work oriented.
- Occasional travelling possible.
