Field Operations - Business Development / Sales Manager

Tasks:

Responsible for Business Development, Sales activities and Implementation of Strategic Plans including Growth initiatives for ABB’s Field Operations Business specifically focusing on Electrical & Instrumentation Construction, Fabrication & Maintenance opportunities within the Oil, Gas & Chemicals sector.

The Business Development Manager will also be responsible for maintaining and utilizing industry contacts and networks for further opportunities as they arise.

• Ensure that the successful candidate supports & drives the RFQ process to the extent that we understand scope of work, risks related to scope, and contract
• Support the Project Construction Manager and Execution teams to complete the project/s successfully
• Collaborate and work with the Safety and Quality Managers to ensure the team is supported proactively and that QHS&E plans are current and available to be used
• Responsible for creating, supporting and driving business development plans & sales activities within local markets
• Supports management of respective local business unit in translating global strategies into local operations and in defining local implementation actions
• Develop good understanding of respective local markets, competitive enviroments and ABB positon
• Works with respective management in identification and prioritization of new business opportunities in line with strategic priorities, based on good understanding of local situation and global business strategies
• Collaborates with all related internal contracts and managers to ensure alignment, efficiency and effectiveness in the implementation of the respective local business strategies
• Leads the organization with a focus on longer term strategic planning and development
• Leadership of one or more organizational areas
• Requires in-depth knowledge of the company’s plans and goals
• Clear focus on organizational leadership over subject matter expertise
• Following and being a strong advocate towards the implementation of ABB’s policies, procedures and guidelines such as… safety, code of conduct, integrity
• Promote, coach and endeavor a ‘lateral thinking’ culture within the business, leading best practices initiatives to effectively and efficiently solve problems and overcome challenges
• Interfacing with ABB’s current and potential clients, identifying and capturing opportunities and building trusted relationships
• Increasing personal and team capabilities, mentor employees and to build trust within the team
• Creating, collaborating and implementing growth initiatives across the operations
• Securing RFQ’s, sound scope of work along with understanding deliverables and working in conjunction with ABB’s estimating and proposal teams to deliver a sound, competitive and complete proposal
• Secure new business, business relationships and tangible opportunities for ABB’s Field Operations Business
• Maintaining communication with the team and customers in relation to project details including progress and status

Requirements:

• Electrical / Instrumentation or trade experience (minimum 5 years)
• Electrical estimating, project or construction management experience
• Technical Sales and or Business Development background & experience
• Grade 12 Diploma; post-secondary education an asset
• Experience in Electrical and Instrumentation
• Sales, business development, managing, construction knowledge and or overseeing small to medium sized EI&C projects would be an asset
• Well rounded, strong, established knowledge of the Oil and Gas Industry
• Sales and business development experience
• Strategic planning and growth initiative experience
• Knowledge & experience in a construction environment
• Firm grasp of project safety requirements
• Firm grasp of project quality requirements
• Is highly credible with customers – provides comfort on technical issues and is recognized as a professional expert in the field
• Sales and negotiation skills
• Ability to build and maintain sustainable customer relationships
• Has a strong network of contacts within the industry
• Good verbal and written communication skills – communication must be clear and concise
• Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to all stakeholders
