Field Service Engineer

Tasks:

Must be willing to travel for development when required
Must be willing to travel as part of the position’s requirement to provide service for the customers (Primarily in Ontario Canada but will also be required to support the other regions within Canada and international assignments as needed)
Must be willing to work under indifferent working conditions and hours of work


Main Accountabilities:
• Proficient in all aspects of wide variety of standalone product knowledge/application. Incumbent has advanced systems knowledge/application.
• Uses a great deal of analytical skills.
• Is able to build customer relationships and pursue new business. Conducts formal training with the customer.
• Makes decisions on complex and technical issues.
• Participates in product improvement and product development projects.
• Provides expertise with commissioning and start-up of new equipment.
• Makes recommendation to customers with regards to system and equipment performance.
• Works in collaboration with other departments (sales, marketing, Engineering) and bring Field Service expertise.
• Acts as a mentor toward other Field Service Employees.
• Reviews specifications and determines departmental requirements for commissioning man-hours, cost of commissioning, technical manual requirements, time required for office support and training required by the customer
• Handles post commissioning warranty activities
• performs field assignments to solve customers’ operational problems, optimize the performance of their equipment and commission new equipment
• Works with Customer on field related problems
• Reviews, interprets and comments on technical specifications
• Recommends field execution strategy and resolve related problems
• Performs field activities, including testing, inspections and site visits
• Maintains awareness of technical and market trends
• Participates in department administration
• Follows scheduling and administrative procedures
• Participates in technical training
• Participates in technical presentations

Requirements:

Specific Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Engineering or Technologist certification
• 7 - 10 years of service experience in power generation, protection, transmission and distribution
• Ability to formulate solutions to technical problems, prepare technical quotations and reports
• Able and willing to be called for Customer emergency situations and scheduled service calls requiring unsupervised work at customer sites. This may include some longer term work assignments at customer sites.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills with customers and co-workers is extremely important
• Safety minded and proven safe work record
• Self motivated and ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously (as required)
• Strong computer skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with customers and co-workers are critical
• See problems as a challenge and be able to find solutions through research, peer networking and Centre of Excellence networking
