In this role you will be responsible in taking lead and completing accountability for strategizing, driving managing, and executing media and public relations program including content amplification across the Process Automation (PA) Business Area. Ensuring consistent messaging and positioning across PA by collaborating with Divisions and PR colleagues while supporting their media and PR activities. Establishing strong relationships with mainlines, financial, trade and business media (including print, web and digital) to raise visibility and improve presence around key topics of interest. Working closely and aligning with ABB Group Communications ensuring proper representation of PA’s PR interests and maximize positive coverage.

This role reports to the Head of Communications, Process Automation.

Your responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing a global media strategy and plan with appropriate success indicators aligned to overall business objectives. Monitoring and analyzing key media metrics and take relevant actions to improvise media visibility and presence.
  • Developing, managing, and sustaining an excellent system and processing for media monitoring that facilitates messaging consistency and significant media coverage across the diverse businesses.
  • Developing and sustaining good media relations processes and framework to ensure consistent positioning and messaging across businesses. Supervising and working with media relations agency to formulate and execute annual media plans including adequate speaker opportunities for topics of interest, press conferences as required, supporting businesses for product launches, and thought leadership.
  • Developing and maintaining all media related content – spokesperson profiles, messaging documents, media advisories, press releases, public statements, presentations, and speeches, thought leadership topics, publication profiles and key contacts.
  • Providing counsel and supporting to create effective change management communications for specific programs as needed, as well as recommending ongoing opportunities to drive two-way dialogue. Training and educating leadership and key spokespersons and media relations colleagues as required.
  • Supporting businesses with driving campaigns and issues management. Managing and applying rigorous control to the communications budget, ensure transparency and maximize effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Developing and executing a content strategy across businesses, globally and specifically in markets of interest.
  • Working closely with stakeholders across the Business Area to identify and develop compelling stories (press releases/web stories/features/blogs) that can be broadcast to a global audience. Supporting in securing approvals from customer communication teams as applicable and support communication teams in regions to tailor for a local audience where required.
  • Partnering with function teams to create content and optimize use of digital platforms and social media when designing and implementing communications programs.

Your background

  • Undergraduate degree or higher in communications, public relations, journalism, mass communication, or related area.
  • Ideally you will have a journalist background.
  • Minimum of 10 years communication experience in a corporate or agency setting with strong story telling skills.
  • Extensive experience in Communications/Media roles as well as been able to demonstrate management of Press/Communications teams.
  • Ability to create and nurture strong and sustainable relationships with general, business and key trade media.
  • Native English speaker a must, any additional languages a plus.
  • Experience managing agencies and teams.
  • In-depth experience in proactive and reactive media relations and crisis management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with ability to develop content for a wide range of communications channels to effectively deliver the appropriate message.
  • Ability to effectively interact and counsel senior management from diverse backgrounds with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Experience in media training and crisis management training.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan activities considering all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines and resources. Ability to quickly assimilate complex information and take independent action where necessary.
  • Effectively analyses and assesses new or uncertain critical information.
  • Mentors several employees at a senior level with experience of work directly with senior leaders.
  • Able to show strong leadership skills and bring a team together.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in their area of work and takes a proactive approach to adopt or adapt innovative ideas and methods.
  • Able to write a wide range of engaging content for a diverse audience using multi-channels.
  • High attention to detail, editing, proofreading, and tailoring content.
  • Used to working under pressure and delivering to tight deadlines.
  • Horizon scanning with strong press acumen.
  • International / B2B experience.
