ABB is seeking a Junior Field Service Transformer Test Technician responsible for the support for the commissioning, monitoring, diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and retrofit of power transformers being serviced by the ABB TRES organization as well as providing pre job fabrication, electrical maintenance, and project preparation activities to support operation of equipment and parts dispatched.


Implement the standards contained in the ABB, Inc. "Code of Business Ethics & Conduct." Insure that all persons reporting to this position are informed about the standards and related policies, and enforce them within this supervised activity.

Provide electrical field support for installation and maintenance for power transformers including but not limited to:
 Diagnostic & Acceptance Testing
o Doble Power Factor Testing
o TTR Testing
o CT testing
o Insulation Resistance
o Winding Resistance
o Control and Instrumentation checkout and calibration
o Transformer monitoring devices
Ability to perform advanced diagnostic testing activities including SFRA and DFR testing of transformers.
Assist field crews in mechanical assembly of transformers
Act as operator for oil processing equipment
Perform pre-job assembly activities such as wiring control cabinets, preparing power and control assemblies, etc.
Perform electrical maintenance of field service equipment including but not limited to:
o Electrical Generator Maintenance
o Control and instrumentation of oil processor
o LV trailer lighting
o Calibration of test equipment
o Electrical Small tool repairs
Develop and provide traceable PM schedules and documentation for field service equipment.
Provide emergency response as required
Maintain accurate records of all site activities and testing including as-built drawings, test records, deviations to specifications.
Provide technical support for customer, subcontractors, and commissioning engineers.
Performing installation, retrofit, commissioning and testing activities as required.


Basic qualifications :
-High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of professional work experience;
•Associate Degree and 3 years of professional work experience.

Preferred qualifications :
• 5 plus years of field service and testing experience.
• Ability to act as the lead on field projects while communicating clearly and professionally to ABB’s customer base.
• Ability to prepare field service job/trip reports using Microsoft word to ensure accurate reporting and cost management of each project.
• Desired technical and/or hands on working skills:
o Knowledgeable and fully fluent in transformer installation and assembly
o Strong vacuum and oil processing understanding
o Familiarity with shell and/or core form transformer designs and components internal to the transformer to assist with internal transformer repairs as needed.
o Ability to read, interpret, and understand standard and complex winding configurations and vector diagrams for testing purposes.
o Welding above and below oil on transformer tanks desired but not required.
o Load Tap Changer (LTC) maintenance and repair knowledge desired
