ABB Inc., is seeking a Data Center Sales Manager to join its Industrial Automation Control Technologies (IACT) group. This position can sit anywhere in the nation, as long as one has easy access to a national airport.


The Data Center Sales Manager is responsible for a variety of complex sales administration activities and for implementing measures to promote continual sales growth of the data center automation business. This person will need to develop and manage external channels to market, identify new prospective customers and work with them to develop them into customers, and consult with existing customers regarding improved product offerings and evaluate existing limitations of customer's equipment. This person will also need to develop and implement sales strategies designed to grow order volume and maximize profit margin, while ensuring optimum levels of customer satisfaction.

Typical duties/responsibilities for sales may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Using your knowledge of the market and contacts in the industry, identify and develop new customers and new external selling partners.

• Develop, drive, manage and support external selling partners as necessary. This would include providing training and sales support.

• Act as marketer/business developer/salesperson of ABB Ability Data Center Automation and IACT’s other products and systems when appropriate, for example at trade fairs, exhibitions, conferences, customer meetings.

• Manage all direct and external-channel leads and opportunities via SalesForce and ensure that all data is kept up-to-date. Produce projections based on intimate knowledge of customer’s demand.

• Chart out and monitor sales proposals and tenders (e.g. quantity, margin, product/system), and follow up statistics concerning sales proposals.

• Provide input and support to other NAM data center automation sales channels.

• Provide input and support to NAM data center automation marketing.

• Participate in cross-BU data center marketing and business development activities.

• Meet annual sales targets, both for numbers of new opportunities and overall revenue.

• Run the negotiations with customers over content, price and Terms & Conditions.

• Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction (NPS scores) throughout the sales process.

• Ensure that payments from the customer are received in accordance with the terms of the contract in order to avoid past due notices.

• Ensure that the sales proposals submitted are followed up and that agreements are signed when appropriate, and that they are in accordance with established requirements within IACT.

• Ensure that agreements which have been entered into are compliant-with and that deliveries of products (goods and services) are implemented on time at the agreed upon cost.

• Travel is estimated to be about 50% nationally.


• Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years of sales experience in the data center automation business
• Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.

**Alternatively, this position may be hired at a senior level**
• Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years of sales experience in the data center automation business

• Bachelor's Degree in business administration, engineering
• Minimum of 8 years of related experience in the data center automation business with solid existing relationships at different levels in the industry.
• A thorough understanding of the data center industry from the procurement, design and construction perspectives. Extensive contacts both with end-customers and Consultants.
• Excellent written and verbal communication ability.
