Materials Engineer /Specialist - Ferrous Metallurgy

To provide technical innovation and support in the areas of ferrous materials and processes for new product development, advanced manufacturing development and cost reduction for bearings, gears, sheaves, couplings, and electric motors

Tasks:

Supports the manufacturing of gears and bearings including carburizing, induction hardening, plug and press quenching.

Experience in powder metallurgy providing technical support to engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing when buying steel bar, plate, and forgings as well as gray and ductile iron castings.

Perform failure analysis in support of sales and product development.

Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science/ Engineering
OR
Master’s Degree in Materials Science/ Engineering

*A Master’s Degree in required field = Credit given for 2 years of work experience.
*A PhD/Doctorate in required field = Credit given for 3 years of work experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors' Degree in Metallurgical Engineering

Strong skills in ferrous metallurgy including heat treating of steel, production of gray and ductile iron castings, powder metallurgy, and steel weldments.

Failure analysis experience.

Knowledge of statistical analysis and Design of Experiments.

Computer literate, especially with Microsoft Office products.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, report writing and technical presentations.

Capable of preparing metallurgical samples and conducting chemical and microstructure analysis.

Related research projects and Coop experience that demonstrates an understanding of testing methods and development processes for ferrous metallurgy.

Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
