Azipod® M propulsion for ferries and RoPax vessels: faster, safer, cleaner

Azipod Propulsion System 2-LargeThe Azipod® M series is designed to help ferry and RoPax operators respond to the systematic tightening of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and ever-stricter emission controls. available in 7.5-14.5MW. In addition to ferry and RoPax vessels, this power range will also be applicable for larger offshore construction vessels, midsize cruise ships and shuttle tankers.

Azipod® M series

The Azipod® M series features additional technical solutions that provide benefits for ferry and RoPax owners and operators. These include:

  • Low onboard height. The Azipod® M unit, including its auxiliary units, have been designed for low onboard height to allow placement under the car deck of RoPax vessels, ensuring more intact loading and unloading, as well as enabling the maximum number of lanemeters.
  • Tailorability. The strut height of the underwater propulsion module can be selected for each project to achieve the best possible propeller diameter, efficiency, and tip clearance. The location of auxiliary units on board (in the pod room) is easily adjustable in order to get the best fit for tight aft-ship designs.
  • Simplicity. Designed to be as simple as possible, ensuring robustness, reliability and easy maintenance for the crew, with all the active auxiliary components easily accessible in the pod room.

HES880 Mobile Drive has been designed from the ground up as a compact drive that can tolerate harsh conditions and heavy operation. These design features make it ideal for heavy working machines and small vessels where it is not possible to protect the drive in special cabinets.

Traction Motor

The motor is primarily intended to be used for heavy electrical vehicle applications, as a traction motor, generator or auxiliary motor. It also fits as propulsion or auxiliary unit in Marine segment

With ABB's e-mobility drivetrain it is easy build small vessels like tugs and tourist ferries, as the mobile drive and traction motor are designed to be compact and work in harsh conditions. As such they don't need electrical rooms or cabinets but can be installed in small spaces like in catamaran fins or on bulkheads.

IMO 2020을 대비한 Continuous Emission Monitoring System과 Water Monitoring System 솔루션


ABB는 변화하고 있는 환경 보호를 위한 국제적인 노력과 함께 발맞추어 나아가고 있다. 국제해사기구 (IMO)는 2020년 1월 1일부터 선박연료유의 황 함유량 상한선을 3.5%에서 0.5%로 하는 규제를 발표하였다. 황의 연소로부터 발생하는 황산화물(SOx) 배출을 줄이기 위한 것이 주된 목적으로, 황산화물은 산성비를 유발하는 등 대기오염의 대표적인 물질로 알려져 있다. 이를 저감하고자 선박들은 Scrubber나 연료의 연소 등으로부터 나오는 황산화물의 지속적인 측정 및 모니터링 시스템이 필요하다.

ABB의 Continuous Emission Monitoring System (이하 CEMS, ABB Model: GAA 610-M)은 이러한 시장변화에 대응하기위한 제품이다. CEMS는 개정될 배출 가스 제한법에 맞춰 가스 감지 및 먼지 농도 측정 수치 변환을 통해 배출가스 결과치를 측정할 수 있는 필수 장비이다. 연료 및 지역 환경 규제의 종류에 따라, 특히 CO, NOx 및 SOx(SO₂)을 포함하는 가스 성분들은 먼지, 가스 유량, 온도, O₂, H₂O를 지속적으로 모니터링이 요구된다. 대체 연료를 혼합 소각하는 경우, HF, HCl, Hg 및 휘발성 유기 화합물 (VOC) 등의 추가적인 성분 역시 모니터링되어야 한다. (예시: 소각 가스 배출 모니터링).

측정된 데이터는 특정 데이터 수집 및 처리 시스템 (DAHS; Data Acquisition and Handling System )으로  전송하여 관리할 수 있다.

또한, ABB는 Water Monitoring System (이하 WMS, ABB Model: WAA 700)을 개발하여 신규 런칭을 하였다. 국내에서 처음 선보이는 WMS 모델은 Scrubber Wash Water의 품질을 모니터링한다. IMO2020 협약이 새로 제정됨에 따라 Scrubber 설치의 필요성이 대두되었고, 그에 따라 Scrubber Wash Water 모니터링 장비의 고객의 니즈 역시 폭발적으로 증가하였다. 이런 시장상황에 있어, ABB에서는 고객이 MEPC.259(68) 규정 준수를 위한 Wash Water를 분석하는 장비를 시장에 선보인다. WAA700은 pH, PAH, Turbidity를 동시에 실시간으로 분석이 가능한 장비로, 분석한 데이터는 다양한 통신 등을 통해 전송되어 관리한다.

ABB CEMS와 WMS를 통해 선박에서 배출되는 기체와 액체의 분석이 동시에 가능하며, 이는 원스톱 서비스(One Stop Service)를 지원한다. One Stop Service란, ABB의 엔지니어 서비스를 통해 WMS와 CMES, 2가지의 서비스가 동시에 가능하다는 것을 의미한다. ABB만의 특화된 서비스는 고객에게 더욱 빠르고 편리한 서비스를 제공한다.
