2014 was a record breaking year for skyscraper construction

A recent report by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) revealed that 2014 was a record breaking year for skyscraper construction. Globally, 97 newly constructed buildings were at least 200m tall, with 11 of those obtaining a ‘Supertall’ classification of 300m or taller. 

This construction growth has resulted in 13 new buildings entering the world’s top 100 tallest list in 2014, including the high profile One World Trade Center in New York. London in 2012, as well as hosting the Olympics, saw the completion of The Shard, Europe’s tallest building, and more recently in 2014 the completion of the Leadenhall Building (known locally as the Cheesegrater) which at 225m (738ft) is the 4th tallest building in the UK.
