February 11, 2010 - Tropos Networks, the market leader in IP broadband mesh networks, today announced that its GridCom architecture has received a 2009 SmartGrid.TMCnet.com Product of the Year Award from Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC) and Intelligent Communications Partners.
Tropos' GridCom is a wireless broadband distribution area network solution for Smart Grid communications utilizing open-standard radios and Internet Protocol (IP) communications. Smart Grids require broadband networks to build a solid foundation upon which multiple demanding smart grid applications such as distribution automation, substation security, and demand response can be deployed.
“SmartGrid.TMCnet.com is pleased to grant a 2009 Product of the Year Award to Tropos Networks for their GridCom solution. Tropos has proven they are committed to quality and excellence while addressing real needs in the marketplace,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. “We’re proud to honor their accomplishments in the advancement of Smart Grid technologies.”
As a standards-based architecture, GridCom seamlessly extends a utility’s existing enterprise network and systems to flexibly and securely provide coverage across large geographical areas. Alternative technologies for aggregating distribution area communications do not provide the low latency (milliseconds) and multi-megabit bandwidth capacity required by many demanding mission critical smart grid applications.
“We’re very pleased to be recognized by SmartGrid.TMCnet.com for our GridCom solution,” said Denise Barton, director of marketing for Tropos Networks. “GridCom is based upon field-proven technology that has been deployed by approximately 20 utilities to date with more pilot projects underway.”
