Saudi Arabia’s coast stretches for more than a thousand miles, much of which is undeveloped coastline of pristine beaches, coral reefs and offshore islands surrounded by crystal clear water of varying shades of blue. Through an ambitious regenerative tourism undertaking the area is being sustainably developed to bring together the natural world with first-class accommodation, across an archipelago of more than 90 islands. The project will be using ABB’s leading power technology to help meet its sustainability objectives.
ABB is working with The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) to supply power systems and digital solutions that will enable the resort to run on 100 percent renewable energy when finally completed in 2030. Additionally, ABB’s digital solution Ability™ Energy and Asset Manager will provide real time visibility of the system’s performance, which will help to minimize cost and risk while maximizing performance and safety across the entire operation. By monitoring data and taking corrective actions, the solution can reduce unplanned downtime to ensure continuous power supply and save up to 45 percent on operating expenses.

To protect the area’s outstanding natural beauty, the Red Sea Project is committed to environmental sustainability. This includes the regulation of fisheries, removal of invasive species, the creation of conservation zones and the expansion of green and blue habitats to encourage regeneration and carbon sequestration, as well as sympathetic and innovative construction methods.
The project is a cornerstone of the Saudi Vision 2030 ambition to diversify the economy by sustainably developing the Red Sea region and is one of several Vision 2030 endeavors to which ABB is contributing.
