The ABB Jürgen Dormann Foundation (JDF) scholars, Yvonne Khoo, Jason Tan Yuan Sheng, and Ong Ze Wei, recently completed a 12-week internship at ABB Malaysia to gain invaluable hands-on experience complementing their academic learning and personal growth.
During the program, the scholars immersed themselves in ABB’s values and multicultural work environment while gaining practical skills and insights into real-world application of ABB technologies.
About the JDF Scholarship Program
The JDF scholarship program, established in 2007 in Baden, Switzerland, supports engineering and science students from partner universities worldwide. Named after Jürgen Dormann, former Chairman and CEO of ABB, the foundation offers financial assistance and professional development opportunities to promising young engineers and scientists. In Malaysia, the program was initiated in 2011, to break down barriers for outstanding engineering talents from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“During my internship with the Electrification Distribution Solution division, I learned about product marketing and technical analysis, which allowed me to deepen my understanding of electrification solutions. In addition to this, I was also able to gain from the supervision and guidance of experienced ABB colleagues, for which I am sincerely grateful,” said Yvonne Khoo.
“My internship in Electrification Services introduced me to switchgears, a topic not covered in the university. This remarkable experience was enriched by wonderful colleagues and an inclusive culture at ABB Malaysia,” Jason Tan Yuan Shen added.
"In the past couple of months, I have been exposed to ABB's innovation, particularly in its cutting-edge digital solutions, as well as its commitment to sustainability. It was inspiring to see ABB’s forward-thinking approach in shaping the future of industrial technologies," Ong Ze Wei commented.
The internship experience at ABB Malaysia is a significant steppingstone for these scholars. By supporting young talents, ABB Malaysia and the JDF program play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of engineers who will drive innovation and progress in Malaysia.
