ABB CEO Morten Wierod attends CIFIT 2025

Morten Wierod, CEO of ABB Group, attended the opening ceremony of the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen, Fujian Province on September 8, 2025. At this important event for global economic cooperation, Morten engaged in key sessions with government officials and other representatives from multinational companies.

Organized by the Ministry of Commerce of China, CIFIT 2025 focuses on three pillars: "Invest in China", "Chinese Investment", and "Global Investment." The event features a variety of forums, seminars and exhibitions designed to support cross-border cooperation.

Morten Wierod said: "I'm pleased to return to Xiamen and experience CIFIT for the first time. This event provides an open platform for global collaboration, connecting governments, businesses, and investors to promote growth."

ABB’s localization journey began in Xiamen, where it established its first joint venture in 1992. Today, Xiamen has grown into ABB’s largest manufacturing hub and innovation center for the Electrification business in China. China is an important market for ABB and a key R&D and manufacturing base, with around 30 local companies and more than 14,000 employees in over 100 cities across the country.

With a wide portfolio in electrification and automation, ABB is well positioned to support the digitalization and decarbonization across many key industries including renewables, data centers, smart buildings, shipping and ports, and smart manufacturing.

While supporting customers and partners, ABB is also walking the talk at its own sites demonstrating how low carbon ambition can be achieved through intelligent technology. At the ABB Xiamen Hub, AI-powered prediction and real-time control optimizes a 100,000-square-meter rooftop solar system, meeting about 50% of the site’s annual electricity needs and cutting CO₂ emissions by 13,400 tons yearly.

The intelligent energy management system and microgrid systems help enhance energy efficiency and reliability of the industrial park, providing a replicable and promotable successful case. It has been recognized by China's National Energy Administration and featured in the China’s Energy Transition white paper as a demo project.

Morten Wierod noted, “We will continue to invest in this important market, strengthening our R&D capability and providing innovative products to help our customers become more productive, efficient and sustainable. We help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner.”

In the exhibition area, ABB showcased two innovative products: the iVD4® medium-voltage intelligent circuit breaker and the SACE Emax 3 air circuit breaker. The iVD4® medium-voltage intelligent circuit breaker innovatively integrates vacuum circuit breakers with sensors and monitoring units, enabling predictive maintenance and informed decision-making for users. As the world’s first cybersecurity SL2 certified air circuit breaker, the SACE Emax 3 is designed specifically for high-power demand facilities such as data centers and advanced manufacturing infrastructure, addressing increased concerns about grid stability and cybersecurity.

Invited by MOFCOM, Lars Eckerlein, General Manager of ABB (China) Limited, delivered a keynote speech during CIFIT, sharing ABB’s innovation and private-sector partnerships at the dialogue session between famous Chinese private companies and global companies.
