The 2019 ABB Cup Innovation Contest officially kicks off today. The contest is organized by ABB and supported by the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA), aiming to provide a platform to display and exchange local innovations in intelligent industries, to support the cultivation of technical talents, and to promote the integration of industry and academic research.
This contest innovatively integrates ABB’s two annual contests - ABB Cup National Intelligent Technology Thesis Contest and ABB University Innovation Contest. Open to professionals engaged in automation and digital technology and full-time undergraduates, postgraduate students and doctoral students at schools in China including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, the contest focuses on three topics of “Smart manufacturing”, “Smart energy” and “Smart building”. Contestants can choose one or more topics for their design and proposal.
The deadline for registration and works submission is August 31, 2019. The finalists will compete in the final defense in October for the first, second and third prizes as well as of the “fast pass cards” to get ABB’s recruiting opportunities. They will also get face-to-face mentoring from industry experts and scholars. Moreover, the Most Popular Team Award will be selected in an online vote at ABB official website and WeChat accounts.
Initiated in 2012, the ABB University Innovation Contest has been successfully held seven times and drawn high attention. In total, the contest has attracted more than 8000 participants from over 200 universities in China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan). The ABB Cup National Automation System Engineer Thesis Contest was initiated by CAA and ABB in 2005. Over the past 14 years, the contest has attracted the participation of 10,910 contestants and received 4,314 theses with 266 from which being elected as award-winning ones.
