This is the second time the Swedish Embassy organizes a traffic safety event, last year in April being in Hanoi.

Road safety is a major public health issue in Vietnam. While there has been high compliance with mandatory helmet regulation among adults, helmet use among children remain low.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Camilla Mellander, Ambassador of Sweden noted that, as a mother of two, she is really concerned about health and safety of Vietnamese children in traffic. She said, "In Sweden, we wear a helmet to protect our heads even when we are on a bicycle. It is simply life-saving when there is a crash. Let us set a good example for our friends, families and peers, and always wear a standard helmet when travelling on a motorbike or an electric bike. As parents, we must stop brain injuries happened to our children".
