ABB’s technologies for metals garner international attention at trade fair

ABB's broad range of industry-specific offerings were showcased at a five-day metallurgical industry event in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Customers, industry experts and other visitors got a glimpse of ABB's cutting-edge digital technologies for metals with demonstrations, working models and presentations of solutions and services at METEC 2019 – The 10th International Metallurgical Trade Fair with Congresses, a leading trade fair platform for metallurgy, which attracted over 72,500 international visitors from 118 countries.

The ABB AbilityTM for metals portfolio leverages over 100 years of process know-how in metals, enabling metals producers to realize the benefits of digital transformation.  A number of these offerings were showcased at the event including:

A working model of EOW i2, ABB’s Intelligent Extended Operator Workplace, allowed visitors to experience ABB's market-leading automation solutions first hand. “At ABB, customers are at the heart of everything we do. The company aims to create the best-in-class digital solutions for our metals customers, enabling efficient energy management, optimal performance, reliability, safety and sustainability for demanding applications and processes,” said Bernd Sachweh, Head of ABB's Metals Business.

Also on display were more traditional offerings that generate process improvements in metals such as electromagnetic stirrers, force measurement products, drives and circuit breakers including the ArcSave® electromagnetic stirrer and the VD4-AF medium voltage circuit breaker, both designed to boost arc furnace productivity, reliability and safety, as well as the ACS6080 medium-voltage drive for advanced precision control, the Stressometer flatness control system for minimal rejects, pass times and strip breaks in rolling mills, and the MTG Box gauge, a thickness gauge used in aluminium break-down mills and continuous casters.
