Urumqi, October 20, 2015 -- The world's leading power and automation technology group ABB announced that ABB Xinjiang service center was officially established in Urumqi today. The new service center will cover the whole Xinjiang region and radiate Gansu and Qinghai provinces, providing local customers in oil and gas, chemical, utility, metals, transport and infrastructure sectors with full lifecycle management services, including installation and commissioning, spare parts, maintenance, repairs, upgrades and retrofits, training and consultation.
As ABB's second comprehensive service center in northwestern China, this new service center pushed up the total number of ABB service centers in China to 16. Over the years, ABB has been actively building a service network covering the whole country to provide customers with faster and more efficient professional services. In 2015 alone, ABB set up new service centers in 3 central and western Chinese cities including Kunming, Changsha and Urumqi.

Dr. Chunyuan Gu, Chairman and President of ABB (China) Limited, said: "ABB not only provides the world's leading technology and reliable products, but also offers comprehensive and efficient services to help customers optimize their asset management and improve operating efficiency. The establishment of Xinjiang service center is one of the key efforts to localize ABB Group's 'Next Level' strategy and it enables ABB to get closer to our customers in northwest China and to better serve the local development of Xinjiang."
Dr. Gu said that the country's "Belt and Road" initiative and "Made in China 2025" strategy have brought new opportunities for the development of central and western China, and great market potentials can be expected in the fields such as utility, industry, transport and infrastructure. As one of China's major energy bases and equipment manufacturing industry bases, as well as a core area of the Silk Road Economic Zone and the frontline of economic and trade cooperation between China and Central Asia, Xinjiang holds a very important strategic position.
As a global leader in power and automation technologies, ABB has long been actively using its technical advantages and global experience to support customers to improve productivity and reduce energy consumption to achieve harmonious development between economic growth and environmental protection. Along with the advance of the "Belt and Road" initiative, ABB has also accelerated its development in central and western China and selected Xinjiang and other three key provinces as the focus points for the company's in-depth western development.
During the past 20 years, ABB has actively participated in the construction of many key projects in Xinjiang, strongly supporting the local social and economic development:
- ABB was involved in the construction of the Hami-Zhengzhou ± 800kV UHVDC transmission project and Xinjiang- Northwest grid ± 750kV second channel project, supporting the country to deliver the western region's surplus power to the power-insufficient central and eastern regions.
- ABB has provided a variety of power products to both Hami and Dabancheng wind power bases, supporting Xinjiang's renewable energy development;
- In PetroChina Dushanzi Petrochemical Company's 10Mt/a refining and 1Mt/a ethylene project, ABB delivered a large number of middle and low-voltage switchgears, ensuring a reliable power supply for this important project of China-Kazakhstan energy cooperation;
- ABB's efficient and reliable power products have been widely used in Sheraton Hotel Urumqi, Xinjiang Military Command General Hospital, Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar, Xinjiang Grand Theatre, Karamay gymnasium and other landmark or livelihood projects, providing reliable power supply for these projects;
- In the construction of Lanzhou-Xinjiang double-line electrified railway and Urumqi City Subway Line 1, the low-voltage switchgears, ring main units, box-type transformers and other equipments provided by ABB have significantly enhanced the power supply reliability of the railway and the subway line, helping the railway development of Xinjiang.
The development of society and economy can't be separated from talent cultivation. As a socially responsible corporate citizen, ABB actively involved itself in charity, education and environmental protection programs in China. In order to better support the development of local talent in Xinjiang, ABB announced to donate power and automation equipments worth 1.7 million yuan to Xinjiang University for setting up a new laboratory, and to provide 100,000 yuan as a scholarship annually in the next 5 years.
Mr. Wu Guangming, Deputy Headmaster of Xinjiang University, said:" The agreement between ABB and Xinjiang University set up a higher-level platform of talent cultivation and innovation research and development for us, which will support the development of higher education in Electrical Engineering of Xinjiang University, and promote the development of the Electrical Engineering, Electrical Equipment majors and related academic fields."
This year marks the 60th anniversary of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. As the core area of the Silk Road Economic Zone, Xinjiang is now faced with the best opportunity for social and economic development. This development can't be achieved without participation of the enterprises. Marina Janabil, Deputy Director of Xinjiang Provincial Department of Commerce, said: "As world's leading power and automation technology group, ABB has been developing in Xinjiang for nearly 20 years and closely cooperating with Xinjiang in such areas as UHVDC power transmission, wind power bases and metro construction. The establishment of ABB Xinjiang Service Center and ABB's donations to Xinjiang University will facilitate local research and development and promote Xinjiang's sustainable development."
