Heartware Network, an organization dedicated to youth development, moved into new ‘smart office’ space equipped with ABB’s home and building automation solutions
ABB collaborated with DP Architects, a leading architectural firm in Singapore, to sponsor the country‘s first ‘Smart Office’ project for Heartware Network, a charity that inspires youth and develops community champions. A grand opening ceremony will be held on July 17, 2018 and will be officiated by Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development.
Heartware Network seeks to instill positive values and build strong character in youths between ages 14 and 35. The organization engages the young to be resilient, innovative in serving others, and to be entrepreneurs rooted to Singapore as their home. Keeping in line with the Singapore Government’s Smart Nation initiative and addressing the demand for skilling up youth in a technology-driven world, ABB took the opportunity to make its pioneering building automation technologies accessible for use at the organization’s new premises.
“ABB is very proud to be working together with DP Architects and Heartware Network on this project, as we believe that our smart technologies will benefit the users in terms of improving their productivity as well as increasing awareness of energy conservation especially among the youth,” said John E. Tan, Key Account Manager of ABB’s Electrification Products division in Singapore.
The new space will house the Heartware Network office and be used for conducting youth leadership courses, orientation for youth volunteers before deployment to the various communities and as a primary meeting place for youth leaders to plan events to impact communities. It is divided into three main areas – the office space, training area and two meeting rooms. The entire office will be controlled via ABB i-bus® KNX system, coupled with ABB´s Busch-ControlTouch®; users will be able to control the lighting, blinds, projector screens and air-conditioning systems via a mobile application. Presence sensors have been installed in the office to automatically control lights to save energy when necessary.
Since the training area and meeting rooms will be made available for use by members and by the public, ABB has installed 10mA RCD (residual-current device) sockets to prevent unnecessary power failure as well as to protect users from current leakages.
“We are grateful for ABB’s sponsorship supporting our efforts to inspire and develop our youth to act sustainably as they use the new space to plan their community activities. The ability to remotely toggle the air-conditioning, the lights, the projector screens and the blinds, from our phones, provides convenience to all our staff and volunteers to conserve energy as they go about their daily tasks,” said Ms Tan See Leng, Executive Director of Heartware Network.
In a bid to educate the youth to be more environmentally conscious, ABB EQmatic has been installed along with ABB EQmeter to allow users to monitor the energy consumption easily on a Smart TV mounted at the main reception. Each youth leader has been given access to the mobile app to efficiently control the appliances that they require in the area. The users are very pleased with the app control as it gives them more flexibility in managing the instruments easily anywhere and anytime, helping them prevent unnecessary wastage of energy.
