ABB debuts flexible, intelligent and tailored solutions for the Factory of the Future

ABB launches two new robots developed as part of its new modular portfolio design at CIIF. Using configurable building blocks and common interfaces that can be combined to bring customers a wider range and variety of robots, the new portfolio approach will lead to more tailored solutions.

ABB will participate in the China International Industry Fair 2018 which will be held in Shanghai, China from September 19 to September 23 (Hall 8.1, Booth E157), where it will also showcase several of its digital and collaborative automation solutions aimed at establishing flexible and efficient factories.

Just a few months after ABB revealed its groundbreaking new portfolio approach at Automatica in Munich, Germany, ABB adds the next two robot models to the broadest portfolio in the market. Per Vegard Nerseth, Managing Director of Robotics for ABB, said “One of the challenges coming from the trend towards low volume, high mix manufacturing is the need for increasingly tailored automation solutions. In the same industries, in the same companies, and sometime even in the same factories, we find that applications are becoming increasingly more unique. Our new portfolio approach is designed to give customers the flexibility needed to stay ahead of this constant change.”

As part of its new modular portfolio design, ABB unveiled its IRB 1100, the company’s lightest 6-axis robot to date, and the IRB 910INV inverted SCARA robot. Both are designed to easily integrate into confined spaces and help maximize the productivity of cells doing small parts assembly with high accuracy and fast cycle times.

ABB is also building on its line of collaborative solutions with a new single-arm YuMi® robot. Together with the game-changing dual-arm YuMi and SafeMove2 software, ABB is offering its customers new ways to increase flexibility by having people and robots safely and productively coexist in the same space.

A highlight of ABB’s digital offering at CIIF will include its new OmniCore™ controller series, designed to unlock the full potential of connected robots. OmniCore comes with ABB Ability™ Connected Services built in, to help customers avoid costly downtime and recover more quickly from incidents.

The stand will also showcase ABB’s remote monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions for industrial drivetrains. This is built on ABB’s condition monitoring and ABB Ability™ Smart Sensor technologies, which use the latest algorithms and machine learning technologies to bring new opportunities to assess, manage and ensure the performance of drives, motors, pumps and bearings.

ABB’s CIIF stand will also feature a number of industry-specific solutions, from battery assembly applications for electric vehicles to an advanced new conveyor tracking solutions that can significantly increase the speed of picking, packing, and palletizing applications.
