Welcome to the inaugural ABB Electrification Products Asia VIP customer event. 

We are excited to have so many of you join us here at the Sheraton Grand Danang Resort in Vietnam. Below you will find an agenda for the sessions happening on May 8 and 9 and a more detailed look into the ABB products and solutions you will hear about throughout the event.

Meet the ABB Management Team

Adalbert 200px

Adalbert M. Neumann was appointed Head of Global Marketing and Sales for ABB Building Products in October 2015. Having joined ABB in 1984, Adalbert has held various management functions within the ABB Group. In 2004 he assumed responsibility for the Group's global wholesale business as Global Distribution Channel Manager. From 2001 to 2010 Adalbert also held the position of Managing Director of ABB Stotz-Kontakt/Striebel & John Vertriebsgesellschaft, based in Heidelberg.

In March 2010, Adalbert was appointed to the management of Busch-Jaeger Elektro GmbH – a member of the ABB Group and in January 2011, he assumed the role of CEO for Busch-Jaeger.

Adalbert is a graduate engineer in electrical engineering and electronics from the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. He also holds a number of external roles including member of the KNX Executive Board. In early 2014, he also took over the chairmanship of KNX Germany.


Alireza Mertash 200px
Alireza Mehrtash is a member of the executive team for ABB’s solar business, heading global Sales & Marketing activities and based in Germany. Previously, he was the general manager for ABB’s Solar business in Germany. He started his career at SMA Solar Technology in Germany, where he held different positions in product management and sales as well as management positions.
Alireza is an electrical engineer with an MSc in energy and power electronics. He has over 10 years of experience in the power electronic industry, most of them devoted to renewable energy and solar.
He is also passionate about diversity, travelling, meeting different cultures and people. 
 
Giampiero 200px

Giampiero joined ABB in 1995 and he has been the Managing Director of ABB’s Protection & Connection business since 2010. The business is a global leader in digital solutions for energy management, helping customers use the power of the cloud and new technologies to improve productivity and operating costs. The extensive offering includes circuit breakers, switches and other essential Low Voltage electrical solutions. All are manufactured to the highest quality standards in the industry.

Robert Doran 200px
Robert Doran was born in Lampertheim, near Frankfurt in Germany and joined ABB in 1988, starting in production engineering for Building Products. Since then he has held various local and global business responsibilities for Building Products and Protection and Connection. In 2016, Robert joined the Installation Products business unit that ABB had acquired in 2012 (US based Thomas & Betts) as the Global Product Group Manager for Wire Management & Connectivity.

During my 29 years in ABB I have spent a lot of time here for business and with my family, e.g. running for 3 years the Protection and Connection business in China. I am married and have a daughter of 15 and a son of 13 with whom I spend as much time as possible when I am not working. I enjoy swimming, food and wine." - Robert Doran

Thomas Zurflüh was appointed Head of Global Marketing and Sales for ABB Distribution Solutions in March 2017. Having joined the ABB trainee program in 2001 in Switzerland and Chile, Thomas has held various management functions within the ABB Group.

From 2002 to 2006 he held marketing, sales and product management responsibilities for communication solutions of the ABB Power Systems Business in Switzerland and China. Between 2007 to 2017, Thomas was global manager of services for excitation systems, had the local division services manager role for power products and power systems in Switzerland and held the global marketing and sales position for medium voltage service.

Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Berne University in Burgdorf and an Executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Electric Mobility: Global Developments and Infrastructure Considerations for Asia Pacific

Speaker: Kumail Rashid

Kumail is the Sales Manager for ABB Electric Vehicle Charging in Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. With the experience of having the largest installed base globally of rapid DC electric vehicle charging stations, ABB has now a firm focus on assisting the growth of the Electric Vehicle industry in Asia Pacific.  A few key projects in this region include country-wide infrastructure, as well as charging for fully autonomous electric buses.

Having joined ABB in 2008 in the Control Systems part of the business, Kumail has had the opportunity of working in various industry segments.  He has performed a variety of roles including engineering, sales and regional business development.  For the past 3 years, Kumail has been helping to build the Electric Vehicle industry in New Zealand, and been working alongside government organizations for setting the direction in strategy and policy.

Kumail holds conjoint Bachelor’s degrees in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and Commerce (Marketing) from the University of Auckland.

Distributor Channels Approach to market

Joint speakers : Vincent Hurel, Leong Tai Wai

Vincent is global head of the distribution channel for ABB Group .  He joined ABB in 1990 and has held a variety of marketing, sales and operations management roles of increasing responsibility across a number of product areas.

Most recently, Vincent was Division Manager for ABB’s Electrification  products in France.  Vincent holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Control and Automation and a Master’s of Business Administration


TaiWai Leong 200px
Tai Wai is the Regional Distribution Channel Manager for Asia Pacific and he has been working in ABB since 2002, assuming regional sales, product marketing and business development roles.

He feels very privileged to have worked with many longtime partners/distributors of ABB in the region, to deliver great quality products & solutions to satisfied customers. He also finds it inspiring to see the camaraderie between ABB colleagues and Distributor team members built-up over years, which have helped this business partnership to thrive in both good & testing times.

Speaker: Christiane Schumacher

Born in Germany and based in Frankfurt, Christiane joined ABB in January 2017. Her current role is Global Marketing Manager within the Solar Business Unit. Her main responsibilities cover distribution channel management and marketing communications. 

Before joining ABB, Christiane already has 7 years of experience in international marketing roles within the solar industry and is passionate about making a difference for our partners and their customers through effective and efficient Sales & Marketing concepts.

Besides her professional dedication to solar, Christiane is a passionate Salsa dancer and loves travelling.

Speaker: YP Wong
YP 200px

Born in Singapore, YP joined ABB in 1995. 

Today, YP is our Regional Manager for Electrification Products Distribution Solutions for the Asia Pacific region. Bringing over 20 years of experience, he focuses on business development in the region, enhancing customer experience with ABB.  Prior to this role, YP had held the role of Local Business Manager for delivering medium voltage solutions and protection.

YP is passionate in building strong customers engagement. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and light sports, jogging and his skiing holidays.

ABB Partner advanced offering: Enabling digital solutions
Roger 200px

Speaker: Roger G. Espert

Roger was born in Australia, grew up in Argentina, lived in Florida, USA and currently living in Italy.

He joined ABB since 1998, working in operational and management positions for low and medium voltage business in Argentina, USA and Italy, having the current role of global product marketing manager for MV indoor products in EPDS.

Passionate about football, Roger enjoys being a father of two young boys in the Internet of Things era, impressed and embracing the fast evolution and insertion of digital technology into our everyday living.

Happy with his current role, he’s interested in learning more about the challenges in the countries and how to work together with the partners on digital-enabled environments to grow in a collaborative and sustainable way.

Building Infrastructure : From Trains to Planes 
Joint speakers: Shailendra Kumar, Paul Onyett

Shailendra 200px
Shailendra was born in India. He joined Thomas & Betts in Oct 2004 as a Sales Manager for Middle East for its Emergency Lighting, Grounding & Lightning protection, Cable ties business before getting promoted as a Regional Sales Manager for Grounding & Lightning protection business for India, ME & Africa. During his tenure in Thomas & Betts, the Grounding & Lightning Protection business grew from a humble USD 2.8M in 2004 to over USD 52M in 2015.

Since the acquisition of Thomas & Betts by ABB in 2012, Shailendra is a part of the ABB family as is currently working as Global Product Manager – Earthing & Lightning Protection, based at Dubai. He has been conducting seminars on the relevant lightning protection standards across the globe and has been felicitated as guest speaker by the Institute of Engineers, Malaysia recently.

Shailendra is very passionate about teaching elementary science and crazy about LEGO. Apart from this, he considers reading & Indian classical music as a part of his soul and plays a few percussion instruments as well.


Paul Onyett 200px
Paul was born in the United Kingdom. He joined ABB in 2009 and has since worked in the Technical team and now in Product Management.

He is passionate about DALI emergency lighting and energy saving applications and he is happy with his current role as the global product manager. In his free time, Paul has interests in golf, walking and travelling the world.

Emil 200px

Emil was born in Vasteras, Sweden.He joined ABB in 2005 and is currently working as Regional Sales Manager Asia for Protection and Connection.

He is passionate about ABB and how we the company can help customers do more with less while moving into the digital era. Having spent the last 11 years in Asia, he is excited to be part of the ongoing transformation in one of the most dynamic parts of the world. When Emil is not working, he spends time with his family, enjoys adventure travelling, and spicy food.


Lionel 200px

Lionel joined ABB in 2001 and has held various positions in Sales & Marketing and Product Management roles. His current position is Technical Promotion Manager for South Asia since 2011.

As an electrical engineer Lionel's passion has always been in engineering and how it is used to improve peoples' lives. When he is not working, Lionel enjoys spending time with a wonderful & understanding wife and having 8 fur kids to go home to.
