Electrification, Protection and Selectivity

ABB provides a full range of electrification Low- and medium-voltage electrical protection devices, including electric vehicle infrastructure, solar inverters, modular substations, distribution automation.

This technical will provide a compendium on the backbone of electrification, protection devices to protect people, installations and electronic equipment from electrical overload such as Switchgears, protection relays, SPD & Arc fault, and low-voltage circuit breakers.

When designing electrification network system, fault calculation is one of the most important factors to be considered in term of safety and reliability, in this technical session, both manual mathematical calculation and computer software will be covered for better understanding. Fault calculation can be very complex if looking into all the components like symmetrical and sequences.

This seminar is divided into 10 sections: 

  1. Introduction to the Electrification & Protection in distribution network. Normative aspects (definitions, governing IEC standards on switchgear and protections, prescriptions regarding protection & fault discrimination within the electrification network, etc.)
  2. Fault conditions and calculation using Computer Aided Simulation method
  3. SS 638 (Previously CP5) and relevant clauses on Protection & Selectivity design
  4. Fault Discrimination design considerations within LV switchgears ref. IEC60947-2
  5. Fault Discrimination design considerations within the final distribution
  6. Live demo on Fault discrimination between ACB, MCCB in the switchgear
  7. Live demo on Fault discrimination between MCCB, MCB in the final distribution
  8. Governing standards from IEC for Low Voltage Switchgear
  9. Digital Low Voltage Switchgear and condition monitoring
  10. Protection relays and protection scheme

The objective of this technical sharing is on a holistic view on the IEC governing Electrification, Protection and Selectivity, and a checklist for selecting a switchgear, low-voltage switchgear as according to the design requirement.
