Description

Railway protection RER670 IEDs belong to the globally acclaimed and widely tested Relion - protection and control product family. The RER670 Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) is designed for protection and control of 16.7, 50 and 60 Hz 2-phase railway applications. This IED protects transmission lines or power transformer in solidly, compensated and high impedance earthed networks control solutions.

Applications

 

  • The line distance protection: The line distance protection function with quadrilateral or circular starting characteristic provides sub-cycle tripping performance. Its six zones have fully independent measuring and setting which gives high flexibility for all types of lines. Load encroachment and adaptive reach compensation are included.
  • The transformer protection: The transformer protection covers transformer differential protection for two-phase to two-phase as well as two-phase to one-phase transformers. Besides the transformer differential protection, a wide range of backup functions are available.
  • Catenary protection: Catenary distance protection is a distance protection for catenary feeders, which supply the moving locomotive through a pantograph. The function is applicable for single-phase booster transformer (BT) railway supply systems and can be used as a simplified distance protection for auto transformer (AT) catenary systems.  
  • Control functions: A wide range of control functions can be included in RER670 to either complement the line or transformer protection IED with advanced control functions or to provide a control IED with optional backup protection.
  • Communication protocols: RER670 provides IEC 60870-5-103 as well as IEC 61850 Edition 2 communication to a substation automation system. While, in the case of IEC 61850 Edition 2, it also provides horizontal communication between IEDs. 
  • Flexible product naming: Flexible product naming (FPN) enables the mapping of an IED-vendor independent IEC 61850 model to that of the 670 series. This helps easier deployment of the 670 series when utility defined IEC 61850 communication model is to be mapped to that of the 670 series model. This is effortlessly done in PCM600. 
  • Centralized User Account Management: Support for Centralized Account Management (CAM) to enable easy deployment of users, access rights and certificates in the substation automation system. Together with Hitachi Energy’s System Data Manager SDM600, it brings a powerful integration of the IEDs with access control and thereby increasing cybersecurity support for compliance to NERC CIP and IEC 62351-8.
