Partnering with academia to prepare a future-ready workforce in Thailand

ABB signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Panyapiwat Institute of Management (PIM) in Thailand, to work together towards the internationalization of higher education and train future workforce for the next wave of innovation in industry.

ABB will supply 5 industrial robots – IRB120, IRB2600, IRB360, IRB6700 and IRB14000 also known as YuMi, the world’s first truly collaborative robot designed for a new era of industrial automation – that will be installed at the laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Panyapiwat Institute of Management (PIM) where students of the Robotics & Automation Engineering program will utilize the technologies to learn through a Work-based Education process.

Thailand is witnessing an increasing demand for industrial robots in order to maximize production efficiencies and return on investment across industry segments.  While this is a welcome advancement, the government has recognized the need to upskill the workforce by producing more programmers, more user experience and user interface designers, more engineers and more researchers to lead the way for the Industry 4.0 era.

"Institutes such as PIM plays a critical role in preparing the Thai workforce for the future of manufacturing," said Lumboon Simakajornboon, ABB’s manager for Robotics and Motion business in Thailand. “ABB is pleased to partner with academic institutions to help upskill the workforce in automation and advanced manufacturing using our leading-edge technologies and bring people with us to enjoy the prosperity of a new industrial revolution."

Panyapiwat Institute of Management (PIM), also known as the Corporate University, was established in 2007 and has been supported by CP All Public Company Limited. PIM has been offering accredited Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs, applying Work-based Education, the different system of teaching and learning, which distinguishes from conventional universities.
