The seminar was an initiative to launch the performance improvement programme being developed for EVN Thermal Power Plants. The event included participation by ABB as well as other players in the power segment. Delegates at the event were management of EVN, Management of the generation management units (GENCO 1, 2 and 3), Management of VINACOMIN, PetroVietnam Power, and representatives from all 16 thermal power plants operating in Vietnam.

At the specific request of EVN, ABB was invited to attend and present its portfolio of power plant optimisation solutions. ABB was the only automation systems provider invited to the seminar. The event offered an opportunity to understand the challenges facing EVN and provided an ideal forum for ABB to present and discuss in detail the value offering from ABB. ABB's "OPTIMAX" solution was a feature of the discussion. In addition, ABB presented its ability to deliver a suite of complete service packages covering Steam Turbine Control, Excitation Systems, Generator Circuit Breakers, Motor Generator, and Transformer Service. Presentations were delivered by experts coming from ABB Singapore (Mr. Enrico Mantero, Mr. Bertil Brandin) and ABB Vietnam (Mr. Axel Kalt, Mr. James Mullen and Mr. Ngoc LeMinh).

In his email to ABB after the end of the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Duy Binh, representative of EVN shared "EVN highly appreciates ABB's experience sharing at the seminar and its participation during the event. EVN has identified its interest in the OPTIMAX product and expects a meeting with ABB to discuss cooperation of the two organizations in the future".
