Montréal, Québec, March 15, 2016 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has been awarded a contract to perform integration, manufacturing, testing and commissioning of an ENVILINETM pre-fabricated TPSS in New Orleans, Louisiana. ABB has supplied many pre-fabricated TPSS around the world, however, this is the first one to be delivered in the United States.
"This order is of great importance to ABB. Having our product selected is a true testament to the quality and efficiency of our systems." explains Derek Monk, General Manager, DMPC Canada. "The ENVILINE Traction Power Substation was designed to maximize the reliability and efficiency of DC rail transportation and we are ecstatic to offer this innovative technology to railway operators across the United States."
ABB will provide medium voltage AC and DC power switchgear, transformer-rectifier units, battery/battery charger and accessories. The manufacturing of the rectifiers and electrical panels will take place at ABB's facility in Montréal, with system integration and testing performed in cooperation with the company's AC switchgear / E-house building supplier in the U.S.
ABB's TPSS are typically positioned near passenger stations. They are designed to step down medium voltage AC and rectify to DC in order to provide power to railcars via Overhead Catenary System (OCS) or 3rd rail. All of this is done safely, reliably and efficiently; the core of ABB's values.
