- Best Practices Recognition Committee from an independent market research analyst group recognize ABB’s digital leadership
- Frost & Sullivan commends ABB’s smart buildings solutions for their interoperability and ability to address industry challenges
- ABB helps building operators reduce carbon emissions and lower energy consumption by up to 40 percent
ABB has earned the 2021 Frost & Sullivan Global Product Leadership Award in the intelligent buildings industry. The company’s integrated smart buildings solutions include energy management systems that can drive operational efficiency, reduce energy consumption by up to 40 percent, minimize costs, and increase occupant comfort.
Frost & Sullivan’s independent market research analysts recognized ABB’s digital leadership, wherein ABB combined building hardware and software with advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and cloud services. ABB allows building and facility managers to monitor, manage, and optimize building systems and offer analytics capabilities by collecting data from sensors and meters, processing the data, and providing tools that enable data interaction. ABB further supplemented its portfolio with an investment in Quebec-based Brainbox AI in October 2021 – adding predictive, self-adaptive, and scalable cloud-based AI to its mix.
“ABB Ability™ Building Ecosystem allows building and facility operators to achieve an average energy saving of 20 to 25 percent, and in some cases, up to 40 percent,” explained Anirudh Bhaskaran, Senior Industry Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. “These savings justify the initial investments quickly with a sound business case.”
Frost & Sullivan estimates the revenue generated by digital building solutions will surpass $25 billion by 2025. Its research reveals the key drivers for the homes and buildings segment revolve around corporate social responsibility goals, reduced operational expenditure, IoT proliferation, and most recently, taking care of fresh and clean air.
“ABB also understands that buildings may already contain different systems that collect their metering data,” added Jeffrey Castilla, Best Practices Research Team Leader at Frost & Sullivan. “While other solutions may not be compatible with these systems, ABB Ability™ Building Ecosystem is vendor agnostic, and its open architecture allows building and facility operators to leverage the existing infrastructure irrespective of the manufacturer.”
ABB’s Ability™ Building Ecosystem solution is a scalable and flexible energy management platform that features capabilities for effective management, active decision-making, and streamlined compliance. Its visualization functionality enables facilities managers to represent data as charts and images. Several airports worldwide already use the solution, including the one-million-square-foot Terminal Two building at Dublin Airport.
“I’m proud to see ABB’s comprehensive portfolio of smart buildings solutions being commended for their interoperability and ability to address industry challenges,” said Oliver Iltisberger, President of ABB’s Smart Buildings division. “The market research analysts at Frost & Sullivan attribute ABB's success to its concept of finding the simplest way to a smart building as well as its ‘relentless pursuit of excellence and ever-evolving portfolio of best-in-class solutions’ that will fulfill our vision.”
Presented to ABB during a ceremony in Orlando, Florida on 8 December, Frost & Sullivan states that it reserves this recognition for companies at the forefront of innovation and growth in their respective industries. Winners have consolidated their leadership positions by innovating and creating new products, solutions, and services that meet ever-evolving customer needs. Frost & Sullivan applies a rigorous analytical process to evaluate multiple nominees for each award category that assesses both product portfolio attributes and business impact.
