GWT X9/C9

Spot Welding Guns

ABB GWT 9–series is a modular, lightweight yet powerful and fast spot welding gun. A fully integrated solution, the GWT 9–series is controlled by the robot controller.

The GWT X9 & GWT C9 are part of the 9–series, the next generation electrically driven servo weld gun family offering a wide range of welding solutions with an outstanding performance and high uptime.

Based on a modular concept and optimized design the ABB's GWT 9-s welding gun, provides a standard body that can be combined with standard or specific arms, for either X or C/J guns. It can support an extensive range of arm configurations and materials such as aluminum, copper, stainless steel, and carbon fiber to address concerns such as overall gun weight.

The same configurations are used for both robots carried or stationary guns. As standard, there are two types of guns – “X” or “C/J”, each with 6 different variants, offering a wide range of welding solutions.

It can be acquired as a standalone product or combined with an ABB Industrial Robot as a complete package.  The ABB's GWT 9-s welding gun is the perfect match for the ABB's Spot Welding Functional Module, a fully configured, tested and verified before delivery robot package.  A fully operational and ready to weld solution.

The 9–series is suitable for operation with the following ABB industrial Robots: with IRC5 controller - IRB 6620, IRB 6700, IRB 6790, IRB 7600, IRB 8700; with OmniCore controller - IRB 5710, IRB 5720, IRB 6620, IRB 6710, IRB 6720, IRB 6740.

Key benefits

A modular design, flexible and reliable

Its lightweight design increases robot speed shortening cycle times and allows less limitations when selecting robot version.

  • Same compact gun body for all models
  • Adaptable to a wide range of arm sizes and types
  • Multiple side mounting options
  • Interface integrated with ABB robots
Genuine top-quality welds with short cycle time

The gun motion is fully coordinated with the robot, ensuring a minimum time between spots. Arms designed for optimal deflection ensure perfect welds every time.

  • High weld force
  • Shorter cycle time
  • Outstanding flexibility and reach
  • Wide range of options for each robot version
High productivity with a powerful and fast spot-welding gun

The 9-series offers a maximum force of 800 daN and allows longer uptime due to its easy maintenance. All major parts can be maintained or replaced without dismantling the gun from the robot wrist.

  • Ready to use
  • Quicker start-up and commissioning
  • Simulation models available
  • Longer uptime
