"ABB RobotStudio is the best robot simulator on the market from industrial robot vendors. RobotStudio performs dynamical simulation and captures the effect of joint torque limit, arm and load inertias, and other dynamical effects. The interface is identical to the actual robot controller, so when our code works with RobotStudio, it has a good chance of working with the physical robot controller as well.

ABB robot controller offers convenient interface to external programs. We can easily download external motion program script to the ABB robot controller and collect and upload the resulting robot joint trajectory for automated iterative refinement of the motion program.

We have used ABB’s external guided motion (EGM) extensively. EGM allows us to perform sensor-based robot control such as visual servoing, force compliance, and runtime collision avoidance. Further, EGM also works in RobotStudio, so we can test our algorithm in simulation before implementation.
