Test Routine

ABB Field Information Manager Learning Center

The Test Routine is the core element of the Loop Check in Field Information Manager.
It allows the check of the complete signal loop from the system to the field device and back by forcing certain test values and expecting measured values of a configured accuracy.

Introduction

The basic Test Routine does not require any additional configuration within Field Information Manager.
The only available setting is the selection of the Test Routine to be used, which defines the covered test points:
  • 2-Point Test (Others): Signal range is tested at two points of the signal range (25 % and 75 %).
  • 5-Point Test (HART): From lower range to upper range value (4, 8, 12, 16, 20 mA)
  • 9-Point Test (HART): From lower range to upper range and back to lower range value again (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 16, 12, 8, 4 mA)

Test Strategy

Test Routine for input nodes:
  • FIM forces the connected field device via device commands to a certain value.
  • FIM reads back the node value from connected system (e.g. at I/O module).
  • FIM compares the measured value against the expected (i.e. forced) value.
  • If the comparison is within the defined tolerance, the test point is passed.
  • If the comparison is not within the defined tolerance, the test point is failed.

Test Routine for output nodes:
  • FIM forces the node in the connected system (e.g. at I/O module to which the field device is connected) to a certain value.
  • FIM reads back the position feedback of the field device (e.g. using the Device Variable 1 of the I/O module to which the field device is connected).
  • FIM compares the measured value against the expected (i.e. forced) value.
  • If the comparison is within the defined tolerance, the test point is passed.
  • If the comparison is not within the defined tolerance, the test point is failed.
