ABB widens market reach with LeanGear ZS9 in Malaysia

ABB in Malaysia has launched the LeanGear ZS9, a customized medium-voltage air-insulated switchgear tailored to local market requirements for lighter range electrical system from the industrial and distribution sectors, which are primed for growth under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

The latest offering complements ABB’s existing medium-voltage products portfolio consisting of dis-tribution automation products, switching, limiting, measuring and sensing devices as well as switchgear to ensure safe, reliable and smart technologies for the distribution of electricity.

Designed to meet optimal safety and reliability standards, the LeanGear ZS9 brings together key func-tionalities of ABB’s existing range of air-insulated medium-voltage products within a highly flexible, modular concept that can be readily configured to meet lighter range distribution application needs in public utilities, light industries, buildings and infrastructure, as well as data centers.

The LeanGear ZS9 is type tested according to IEC 62271-304 Class 2 and internal arc classification IAC AFLR 25kA 1s. With a metallic partition between busbar and cable compartments, the LeanGear ZS9 provides improved personnel safety; easy accessibility for the circuit-breaker mechanism that eliminates the need to access the high-voltage compartment; and a compact design with reduced footprint and height.

In addition to this, the LeanGear ZS9 also incorporates ABB’s leading edge ABB Relion® series relay for maximum protection and control.

“The LeanGear ZS9 will be assembled here in Malaysia to ensure consistent quality, optimized delivery times and guaranteed supplies. In this regard, I’m happy to share that the LeanGear ZS9 has received its first order in Malaysia, underscoring market demand and confidence in ABB,” said Vinod Chopra, Vice President, Medium Voltage Products, Electrification Products division, ABB in Malaysia.

“The launch of ABB’s LeanGear ZS9 in Malaysia is consistent with our external focus and growth strategy in one of the most exciting energy markets in the region. With electricity demand in Malaysia expected to grow between two and three percent per annum driven by the industrial sector, ABB is well-positioned to support this development,” said Jukka Poutanen, Managing Director, ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
