AC500 PLC integration into ABB Ability™ System 800xA

The scalable and modular PLC AC500 is an integral part of System 800xA enabling the cost-efficient automation of distributed or modular applications combined with the benefits of System 800xA. Tools facilitate efficient engineering

The AC500 PLC is ideal for the automation of hybrid and infrastructure applications. The communication features, support of various fieldbuses and modularity together with DCS features and integration into ABB AbilityTM System 800xA make AC500 the best choice when a scalable controller is needed.

Hot swapping I/O modules increases system availability. Variants for extreme conditions, Class 1 Div. II certification and approvals by classifications societies ensure the environmental requirements of many applications can be met.

For cost-efficient solutions, S500 I/O modules can be integrated into the DCS controller AC 800M. Hardware libraries are available for the seamless integration into the DCS controller engineering tool. This increases engineering efficiency and provides I/O modules with DCS features.

Thanks to a package of symbols and faceplates for System 800xA and a function block library for AC500, the engineering and integration of AC500 PLC based automation solutions into the DCS environment is very efficient. This is a benefit especially for distributed and modular solutions, where many or small controllers are needed.

The package contains process control objects for digital and analog setpoints, analog measurements with threshold alarms, valve control, motor control with or without variable speed drives und proportional integral controllers.

Automation Builder, the engineering tool for AC500, includes a library with the corresponding function blocks for efficient programming of the automation solution in AC500 PLC. The symbols and faceplates associated with the function blocks are available as an option for System 800xA.
