ABB lands service order at nuclear power plant in Sweden

ABB improves reliability and ensures operational efficiency of the nuclear reactors at Forsmark in Sweden by upgrading the drive system modules controlling circulation pumps at the plant.

ABB has landed a service order for a major upgrade of all ACS600 Multidrive modules for the drive system that controls the circulation pumps in Forsmark's nuclear reactors in Sweden.

The drive system, ACS600 Multidrive, was supplied by ABB in 1999 and it comprises a total of 132 modules that will be upgraded over a two-year period. The order comprises material, repairs to modules, cabling and installation on site.

The upgrade will safeguard operations for a long time to come and also minimize downtime.

The order is divided into two stages. The first order, for 63 phase modules, was placed and commissioned in 2013, and this second order will be finalizing the upgrade project. Forsmark has now chosen to place the second and final stage of the order.

"In 2013 we proved Forsmark that we could live up to their stringent requirements regarding commissioning and quality," says Håkan Persson from ABB's drive system service unit in Sweden. "We are pleased and proud that Forsmark awarded ABB this order for upgrade."
