The FIA and Formula E have released the first digital images of the next generation car for season five, showcasing the futuristic new-look of the fully electric street racing series – the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
The physical model of the new car, as well as the name and technical specifications will be revealed by FIA at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6. The completely redesigned car, with its futuristic look, will hit the series’s street circuits later this year as the new season gets underway.
The new car demonstrates a step-up in performance from the current model with almost double the amount of energy storage capacity and double the range, demonstrating the continuous evolution of battery technology. This means the teams and drivers will complete a full race distance at higher speeds without making a mid-race car swap.
The new car is clear proof of the incredible advancements electric vehicle technology has achieved since the Formula E series began four years ago. For the first time ever, FIA brought the world’s leading designers and engineers together to create a car which Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag says "represents the future of racing."
The fourth edition of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is currently underway with 10 teams and 20 drivers competing in 10 cities spanning five continents.
The next race takes on February 3 in Santiago, Chile.
