Thermistor protection modules for ACS880 drives

The ACS880 drives are available with ATEX-certified thermistor protection module FPTC-02 or with functional safety certified thermistor protection module FPTC-01 for ensuring safe motor temperature. These option modules enhance process safety and simplify installation.

Reliable, integrated safety

The ACS880 drives can be ordered with thermistor protection module option. The thermistor protection modules FPTC-01/-02 are certified by TÜV Nord according to the main functional safety standards. In addition, the FPTC-02 is type examined as a protective device within the scope of the European ATEX product directive. FPTC-01/-02 module together with Safe Torque Off (STO) function of the drive, implements the Safe Motor Temperature safety function (EN/IEC 61800-5-2:2007) that prevents the motor from exceeding the specified temperature limit.

Easy installation

The optional thermistor protection module plugs into the drive and enables easy and certified implementation of motor temperature protection. The module is compact in size and easy to connect with the motor‘s surface temperature sensor. The FPTC-02 module can be used in the protection of motors that are installed in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Extending application safety

The module includes two PTC sensor inputs. The first one executes SIL/PL capable Safe Motor Temperature safety function by activating the drive's STO. The other input generates a warning to the drive (non-safety related input). The module has reinforced insulation between the motor thermistor connection and the other terminals, also with 690V. The insulation forms a reliable protective separation between the motor main circuit and the drive's control board. Safety function selection and configuration is done with the drive's control panel or with Drive composer PC tool, which is also used for other configurations of the ACS880 series drives.

Additional safety functions

FPTC-01 and -02 thermistor protection modules can be used together with FSO-12 and -21 safety function modules. The safety function modules offer a wide range of additional integrated safety functions for improving process safety.
