New version of ABB Ability Manufacturing Operations Management

Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) release acts as a fundamental milestone in the MOM technology transition from traditional desktop clients towards a modern, end device agnostic and scalable zero-installation web client technology while continuously adding value for Plant Information Management System (PIMS) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) use cases.

The new version of ABB Ability^TM Manufacturing Operations Management offers an extended range of capabilities and new digital applications to improve operational effectivity.

We’ve incremented our ongoing improvements in engineering efficiency, flexibility, quality and cost saving with the introduction of introduction of the new web-based Report, Overall Equipment Effectiveness and Event applications. This release is complemented by improved web-based Dashboard, Statistical Process Control application and new Widget SDK to provide tailormade and industry specific data insights. We’ve further improved Manufacturing Execution Application to achieve greater flexibility throughout the production processes

Highlights:

The updated Dashboard application provides new drill-down and filter functions to investigate large data sets and comes with a powerful expression builder to increase process and shop floor awareness

A manufacturing execution system (MES) brings agility and transparency to a production process and is the cornerstone of a collaborative production management strategy. MES enables higher plant efficiency and productivity as well as greater flexibility throughout the production processes

The updated web-based Dashboard 2.2 application allows fast and easy build smart interactive dashboards combining both operational process data as well as manufacturing data. Users configure and view dashboards with various data widgets in a self-service manner. Dashboards can easily be saved and reused and organized in the Dashboard application. Dashboard application supports tablets down to 10” format.

As part of this release users can benefit from the following added functionality:

Expression builder to enable dynamic widget styling based on logical operators

The new Manufacturing Operations Management Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) 1.0 web application supports plant managers with the right data at their hand to judge about their assets and allows to identify bottlenecks within their plant and processes. This analysis supports in optimizing resource utilization and streamlining processes. OEE is a well-known industry standard considering equipment availability, performance and quality to determine the OEE KPI. Paperless and consistent data tracking approach reduces cost, time and enables decision support for asset life cycle management. The OEE App also boosts operator efficiency and increases quality due to reduced scrap

Manufacturing Operations Management Statistical Process Control (SPC) 1.2 web application provides quality methods to supervise if a process is in state of control and whether it can produce units within given tolerances. The SPC application enables the user to define and monitor control cards. Control cards consist of up to three control charts, also known as Shewhart charts or process behavior charts. The control charts are the actual statistical process control methods performing the SPC calculation and visualization.

The improvement in the performance can help identifying process variations faster than before leading to stabilized processes and increased product quality. Users will benefit from the increased performance of MES data retrieval introduced within this release and with lower the need of rework and workforce material & assets can be utilized in value adding activities

Manufacturing Operations Management Report 1.1 web application is now available within the Web Client Framework and provides report viewing, report scheduling and report designing capabilities which allows users to benefit from the complete report workflow within their web browsers. Control system data as well manufacturing data can be leveraged for report template designs and a sophisticated chart toolbox along with dozens of properties are provided by the report designer. Importing and exporting of report templates provides an easy back-up mechanism as well as exchanging report templates between different installations. Using the report scheduler periodical, triggered and ad-hoc report creation is supported. The e-mail notification service allows plant managers and shift operators to stay up to date about new available reports. Last of all, created reports can be viewed and analyzed, printed or exported in different data formats. The report histogram gives a quick overview about spots in time when reports have been created.

The new Event 1.0 application provides an easy to use self-service event analysis tool to the office environment and to mobile users to investigate Distributed Control System (DCS) and audit event occurrences. The event histogram provides a high-level overview of the event distribution during the provided time frame which allows to quickly identify event bursts. Therefore, the Event application can be used to drive the implementation of alarm rationalization processes. Within the details pane users can see additional event attributes and sort the results regarding their needs. This enhances operator awareness in abnormal process situations and saves time due to harmonized interface for consolidated event analysis.
