IEC DC Standardization - work in progress

From the higher voltage evolution to AC/DC hybrid systems behavior

In this session we will talk about the IEC standardization evolution for DC application and the related Standard Committees/working Groups activities. Then we will have an overview on the important on-going activity of AC/DC hybrid systems analysis in term of ground connection definition and behavior during faults

Every professional knows how standards are fundamental to facilitate and guide our daily activities, and in particular, a consolidated set of standard helps to boost the spread of a new technology. If standards are the base of products design, their relevance increases when it comes to system design like in DC distribution infrastructures.

Therefore, in this session we will speak to some experts who are members of the main DC technical committees in order to give us an update on the IEC standardization evolution of DC application and the related Standard Committees / Working Group activities. In particular, one of the most actual and important trend in DC, affecting also AC, is the voltage grow and the redefinition of the Low Voltage boundaries. So, we will talk about the main reasons behind such trend towards higher voltages.

Then we will have an overview on the important on-going Working Group activity on AC/DC hybrid systems analysis in presence of isolated or non-isolated converters and in term of ground connection definition and behavior during faults.
