ABB and Heijmans sign agreement to cooperate in home automation

Dutch construction company chooses ABB-free@home to make homes smarter

Heijmans, one of the biggest construction companies in the Netherlands, recently signed a cooperation agreement with ABB.  Both parties see many opportunities to create added value together for structural applications of home automation in new homes. One practical result of this will be visible in one of the pilot project, Living Industria, a special housing development project featuring contemporary living in Hilversum, just outside of Amsterdam.

The agreement was signed in June by Maarten van Duijn (Manager, Real Estate) on behalf of Heijmans and Jaap van den Bent (vice-president) with Eric Karsemakers (general manager) on behalf of ABB.

Innovative and sustainable cooperation
“With this agreement, we are underlining that together, we are taking a step forward to make the electronic conveniences available today as a standard part of our homes,” says Maarten van Duijn, “The focus here is on each phase in the construction process. From initiation and engineering to sale, implementation and after-sales,” explains Jaap van den Bent further. Eric Karsemakers adds: “We will be working closely together to make homes smarter on a standard basis with home automation. What’s more, this will not only be in the field of products and solutions, but also as regards installation and communication.

Current market calls for smart solutions in homes
Last year, ABB and Busch-Jaeger introduced the new Busch-free@home® home operating system. This new home automation system for the mid-segment of the market makes a house a smart environment. Blinds, light, hearting and even door intercom systems can be operated at the push of a button. All this is already applied in various pilot projects. One example is the Living Industria project, where a number of homes have a total basic package as standard equipment, which can then be extended as required to include various other functionalities. Favorite settings can be selected with a smart switch on the wall or (from a distance) using a tablet or a smartphone. Intuitive, practical, comfortable and energy-efficient.  This gives users the many advantages of home automation on a standard basis.

Synergy
Heijmans focuses on regional development in the Netherlands with both large-scale and smaller projects in urban and non-urban areas, acting as initiator, developer, seller and builder, mainly of homes. The activities primarily involve new buildings, but they also include the repair, conversion and renovation of houses. ABB in the Benelux is the local representative of the worldwide ABB group. ABB is market leader in the field of energy and automation technologies, enabling clients to improve their performance and at the same time reduce the burden on the environment. Busch-Jaeger, market leader in the field of installation technology, is part of the ABB group, including advanced electronic products for building automation.
