Blue Lagoon City Hotel is the newest addition to the Blue Lagoon Group and its first city hotel that is open all year round. The building was also operating as a hotel previously, under a different ownership but was totally renovated during the winter 2017-2018. The concept was to build a very modern hotel that would give a Kos “city vibe.” This is unlike the other properties in the group and the majority of hotels in Kos, as they tend to be resort hotels for summer holiday travelers. Blue Lagoon City was designed to meet the needs of a wider range of guests that visit Kos for numerous various reasons.
The new four star luxury hotel with elegant guestrooms and suites is located in the heart of Kos, only a 5 minute walk to the harbor, town square and shopping district. Its Spa offers a beautiful and tranquil environment in which to rejuvenate with special beauty treatments offered in private rooms: a sauna, a hamam, an indoor pool and a jacuzzi also included. The hotel facilities also include two restaurants, two bars, a gym, a conference room as well as an outdoor pool. In summary the hotel offers a very comfortable and pleasant environment ideal for couples, incentive groups but business travelers too.
Since UniPro’s preeminent field of expertise is in building automations applied to hospitality venues, there weren’t any special technical challenges or difficulties in fulfilling the wishes of the customer.
However, the two main challenges of the project were the following:
1. Since the whole building automation project had to be designed and implemented within a 6 month period, keeping the strict deadlines was a challenge that however was met successfully.
2. The electrical, mechanical and HVAC contractors that cooperated on the project didn’t havprevious experience on such a big scale or having worked on a complex building automation project, therefore UniPro’s challenge was to provide them detailed designs, specifications and guidelines in order to provide the expected outcome to our customer.
The parallel benefits of bus technology when applied to big hospitality venues were made obvious to the hotel’s management. Energy efficiency, central and easy control of various functions in different areas, operational efficiency through automated functions, security and above all hotel guests’ comfort were the key decision factors for applying building automations.
Yes, UniPro did specify and designed the measures to increase energy efficiency during the planning phase of the project.
