Princess Noura University for Women

Education

The university campus covers eight million square meters in total, approximately three million square meters are built-up area. The campus includes an administration building, a central library, conference centers, 15 academic faculty buildings as well as several laboratories all fitted with ABB i-bus® KNX devices.

ABB’s KNX-based technology allows the university facility management an automatically and remotely control of the lightings and shadings, enabling significant reductions in energy usage.

What were the challenges in fulfilling the wishes of the customer?

The challenge of this huge project was to complete the KNX system engineering in a very short time. The KNX control panels have to be delivered to site on a very tight schedule. Delivery of KNX materials from the feeder factory in Germany have to be on time. Several mock-up rooms were required in different locations.

Why was the decision for a KNX solution made?

The ABB i-bus® KNX system existed in Saudi Arabia for a decade and has proven its flexibility, reliability and customer support in various projects being executed and handed over. The presence of the local factory in Riyadh for the KNX control panel assembly wherein all panels has been tested and checked before dispatch was also a reason to use this system. The KNX system has the functionality and flexibility that meets the requirements of this project and can be easily integrated to other 3rd party systems via gateways.
